If you choose to have a backup shower curtain or 2, consider having coordinating mats for each curtain. This certainly does not mean they all have to match, you just want to make sure everything coordinates nicely.

Lastly one if the biggest impacts you can make in a small space like your bathroom is to update the paint color or wallpaper. Wallpaper can make a gorgeous statement in your bathroom or powder room, and with it being the star of the show, your other items can remain simple and neutral {can’t get easier than that!}. When it comes to painting your bathroom, there are so many different directions you can go. Keep it clean and simple with a soft blue green or cream, or go all out and have fun with a color you wouldn't want to commit to in a larger room.

One big trend we are seeing is the use of wallpaper with geometric patterns. Geometrics are huge right now in general, so pair that with the comeback of wallpaper in residential homes and you have match made in heaven. We love to use wallpaper in places like entry ways and bathrooms. These are great places to use wallpaper because they are usually relatively smaller spaces where you can make a big impact. It is a good idea to choose a wallpaper that is on the more subtle and or neutral side for most situations. This helps to ensure that you wont tire of the color or pattern to quickly.

Another fun trend we are loving is painted furniture. This trend is great because of its wide range of versatility. With painted furniture pieces, you can go as bold or as subtle as you want to. One of the most common themes we are seeing among painted pieces is the use of neutral paint colors such as white, cream, or gray paired with different levels of distressing. We are also seeing a lot of mixing of wood tones along with paint. For example, all different styles of tables are being painted on the base and then leaving the wood tone on the top. This gives the piece an extra layer of dimension that can really add a lot to a space!

Tufting is a trend that truly never goes out of style, it just happens to be very popular right now. We are seeing a return of more detailing and unique touches on upholstered pieces so this fits right in line with that. Wallpaper has most definitely made a come back within the past few years. Most people hear wallpaper and think 70’s florals but that has all changed with the introduction of updated colors and patterns in the world of wallpaper. When deciding if you are wanting to use wallpaper in your space instead of painting there are a few things to consider. Cost can be a major factor in this decision as installing wallpaper is more expensive than painting. Also, instead of putting wallpaper up all over a large space like your living room, it is best used in smaller areas like the foyer, a bathroom, or an accent wall.

Painting your space can make a world of difference to the overall impression your room gives off. It is a great way to let your personality shine through. Gone are the days of painting your whole house in the safest tan you can find. Gray and “greige" rule the paint world when it comes to neutrals. Wanting to branch out with some fun color? You can easily do so, just make sure you choose a more muted version of your favorite hue when painting large spaces. For example if you are green lover you don't want to paint you're entire kitchen in electric lime, choose a softer shade like a nice sage to pull your color in without overwhelming the space.

Wallpaper = Granny…

Or does it???  When I ask people what comes to mind when I say “wallpaper”, it isn’t good. The negative reaction is usually the result of an image popping into their mind- an image of their grandmother’s orange and yellow floral kitchen walls from the 60’s. Very Brady Bunch inspired.  Something like this…. 

Quite frankly, I’d have the same reaction, too, if that was my only experience with the stuff.  I can happily say that the design world has departed from the heavy florals of the 1960’s (thank goodness!) and wallcovering has followed suit.  I used a textured vinyl covering in a University housing project just last year and the result was dynamo! 

Depending on your personal style preferences, you can find gorgeous metallic damask prints,

clean floral designs,

 two toned stripes...

I could keep going and going Energizer- bunny -style, but you get the picture. Wallcovering also gets a bad wrap for being defiant when applied to or removed from walls.  The truth is that when applied correctly by a professional, there is usually no trouble at all.  

Everything has an appropriate place and purpose.  And wallpaper may not always fit the bill, but when it does, don’t be afraid to explore the options.  You just might be surprised with what you find!
