2019 Trends- Hollywood Regency

I was recently asked to comment on design trends for 2019 for a magazine article.  Hollywood Regency is a big one!  Are you wondering what on earth I mean when I say “Hollywood Regency”??  You’re not alone.  It’s a term used to describe a certain design aesthetic.  most people can recognize the style, but don't know the name to attach to it.  Easily summed up it is simply old Hollywood glam. 

Typically Hollywood Regency style includes these types of elements:

-velvet upholstery

When velvet is used on a tailored piece of furniture with clean lines, it doesn’t look as stuffy as if you were to place it on a Victorian piece of furniture.

-deep colors such as emerald, red, cobalt, and purple

We are really starting to swing the other way from the soft grays that have been popular in the past.

-marble or stone topped tables, specifically those with gold (or metallic) frame.

I am a HUGE Jonathan Adler fan, and his style encompasses Hollywood Regency in a very modern way.  If you aren’t familiar with him, you should check out his stuff.  He’s a great go-to for inspiration when you want to create a luxurious, yet playful space.  His catalog is full of eye candy, some of which can be a little irreverent in the best way. 

Dorothy Draper is another iconic designer that plays with this style well.  Erika and I had the pleasure of taking a workshop from her protege, Carlton Varney last year.  We learned so many fun things about being bold with color and pattern.  The recap of that experience is on the blog.

Something about adding green to your decor adds a burst of freshness as well as calm which is a winning combination!

Spring is the perfect season to begin introducing this bold and fresh color into your home. Whether you add it in a littler here and there or go all in by using it in paint or furniture, this hue wont let you down!

Statement Wallpaper

Wallpaper has seen a major comeback in the past few years. This Spring and into 2017 we will see the wallpaper trend go to the next level by using statement wallpapers as accent walls. Marble is another trend that has gained speed recently so you may even see these trends combined with marble wallpaper. Geometric wallpapers are also very popular right now and make for great statements as well.

Indoor plants are another trend we will see this Spring in home decor. Faux is always another option of course if  you don't want the responsibility of keeping plants alive. Some trendy plants we are seeing incorporated into design include fiddle leaf fig trees, succulents, and indoor vines in planters.

Greige is such a fabulous paint color to use not only in your kitchen but throughout your whole home. It is a combination between gray and beige and we just cannot say enough good things about it. It gives your home an updated look and feel without making your space feel cold which can sometimes happen with true gray paint colors. Muted blue/green is another great color for kitchens. It combines the cool and serene feeling of soft blue with the crisp and clean feeling of green. Sage is another fabulous color to use in your kitchen. This one is a tried and true color that designers and homeowners alike have been using in kitchens for years. This classic color gives just the right amount of color and drama to your space without getting to dark. Green also represents freshness and cleanliness which is why it is a fantastic color to use in a food prep area. Whether you choose to simply paint your island, your cabinets, or just your walls in this color it will not let you down. Sherwin Williams Clary Sage and Svelte Sage are both great options.
