Hot Colors for Summer

Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

One color that is huge right now is navy. This is such a gorgeous color to incorporate into your decor. Navy is a deep and dramatic color so it is best used in appropriately proportioned doses. For example, you wouldn't want to use this color on all the walls in a tiny powder bathroom, it would be just too overpowering. If you are going to paint your walls in navy, make sure the size of the room can handle that deep color. It is also great to use in touches here and there like pillows and accessories.

Soft Gray

Soft grays and “greiges” (a mix between beige and gray) are another very popular color not only for summer but for years to come. This is coming to be known as the “new neutral” as people are getting away from the “builder beiges” and boring tans. There is such a wide range within this palette that you are sure to find just the right one for your home’s needs.

Kelly Green

Finally we have the show stopper that is kelly green. This color makes such a fun and bold statement in your decor. This color is best used with touches here and there. It can overwhelm a space in a hurry if over used. That being said, it can add that perfect punch of color your space needs!

Summer Decor Trends

Matte finishes are huge for 2018. Incorporating these muted finishes into your home’s decor is a great way to make a statement and let something like your faucet or hardware stand out in a new and interesting way. Although bronze and brushed nickel are always great, safe, go to’s, this relatively new trend can really make a splash in your decor. Matte black finishes are our personal favorite.

Mid-century modern is another trend we are seeing all over and will certainly go on into this summer. This style is incorporating retro inspired pieces mostly from the 60’s/70’s era into your space. This style trend is a great one because you can seamlessly incorporate it among your other more current pieces.

Our final decor trend is colored stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel has been the standard in gorgeous kitchens for years. Now black and slate colored stainless has been gaining on the tried and true classic stainless steel. It is an interesting twist on the original where you still get the classic look and durability while also adding new edge and style.

Father’s Day: How to Create a Masculine Space that is Functional

Continuing with our Father’s Day theme, we would like to talk about how to create a masculine space that is still attractive and functional. In terms of home decor, it seems as though feminine touches tend to win out over their masculine counterpart. We are here to say that masculine decor does not have to be limited to a bachelor pad or a man cave. Masculine touches can be a welcome contrast throughout your home.

This photo is a fantastic example of how to incorporate masculine items like animal skulls, distressed wood, and a deep navy wall together to create a beautiful, cohesive look. As time goes on, these “masculine” items are becoming more and more mainstream and used throughout home decor.

Leather is a great way to mix in more masculine touches into your home decor. This tufted leather sofa paired with an antique trunk and mixed wood and metal end table create the perfect masculine inspired space. If this look is a little too far into the masculine look than you are going for in your home, try taking just some of these elements and combining them with more feminine pieces including soft textures and soothing colors.

Finally, bold artwork is another masculine touch that can be incorporated into any space to give it an extra edge. This abstract, black and white piece from Kirklands.com is a perfect example of a great piece to incorporate into your space. This thick, brush stroke look with stark contrast between the colors is a very popular look right now.

Father’s Day: Decor Gifts for Dad

Father’s Day is one of those holidays where you want to give a gift that shows you really put thought into it. That being said, you also want to choose something that can be functional as well. A decor gift is the perfect combination of the two. One fun idea for a decor gift for the new dads out there is to have your little one hold large letters that spell out “Dad”. This is something that he can hold on to and treasure for years to come. As the child (or children) in the photo grow, he can look back on this photo and remember how he felt when they were so young and he received this thoughtful gift.

Another Father’s Day decor gift idea is a frame that has something that he is interested in around the outside. The example shown here is from zulily.com and it is a frame with wrenches on the facade. This is the perfect item that could be placed near his work station in the garage, or even his man cave! It creates a perfect combination of his masculine hobby along with his sweet family all in one.

It seems to hold true that most dads have a favorite chair, or spot on the sofa that is “their spot”. This final gift idea we are sharing is the perfect addition to make “their spot” even more special and personal to their needs. It is a known as a “C” table, this is a table that is designed to come up and over the arm of a sofa or chair’s arm. The example shown is from etsy.com and it has places for remotes, magazines, etc.
