Kitchen Redo 101: Whats Hot in Backsplashes

Subway Tile

Subway tile is not only a huge trend in kitchen backsplashes now, but it has been for years because it is a classic and timeless choice. It comes in different sizes, colors, and materials so you can easily choose the one that best fits your design style. It creates the perfect crisp and clean feel that works beautifully in kitchens.

Tile to the Ceiling

Don’t be afraid to take your backsplash tile all the way to the ceiling! These photos show great examples of how this can turn out wonderfully. Tiling all the way to the ceiling really plays up the height of your space which is always good. It also creates a beautiful and unexpected statement to the room.

Herringbone Patterns

Another hot trend going on in kitchen backsplashes right now is using a herringbone pattern. This is a nice departure from the average brickwork pattern used in a lot of backsplashes. This pattern creates a lot of movement in your space which is a great way to add interest. It is also a nice way to add pattern without choosing tiles that are patterned themselves which can get outdated very quickly.

Kitchen Redo 101: How to Update Cabinets

Least Expensive Option: Update your Hardware

Updating the hardware in your kitchen can be an inexpensive fix that can make a world of
difference. This is something that can be done when you first move into a new place, for example, and would like to make the house match more with your personal style. Even just changing the finish on your hardware, like what was done on the navy china cabinet pictured, can be all you need to make a big change. Updating your cabinets can get quite costly depending on the route you take. If you are looking to update your space without diving into a full renovation, updating your hardware first is the way to go!

Midrange Option: Update the Color

If you are happy with the current style of your cabinets, a simple paint color update can work wonders! Some classic paint colors for cabinets include white and cream, while newer more trendy colors include navy and greige (a mix of gray and beige.) These photos show how the color of your kitchen cabinets can be vital to the overall look of your space.

High End Option: Change the Style

On the other hand, if you are not in love with the current style of your cabinets, updating the style all together can be the way to go. Some of the most popular cabinet styles include shaker, flat, inset, and beadboard. The style you choose depends completely on your design preference. Flat cabinets for example can give your space a very contemporary feel, while shaker and inset cabinets lean more toward a transitional vibe.

Kitchen Redo 101: Trends in Kitchen Decor

Open Shelving
decoholic.org

One big trend happening in kitchen decor is the addition of open shelving. This is a great way to create a display area for your dishes and other items you would like to show off. Mixing in some greenery and trinkets can create a beautiful display in an area that would normally be closed off behind cabinet doors.

Industrial Touches

Adding industrial touches here and there is another trend in kitchen decor right now. If you add too much of the industrial decor into your space it can quickly begin to make it feel cold. But with just a few touches throughout, it can create a unique and updated vibe in your kitchen. This can be accomplished by using different metals, like brass or wrought iron, for your fixtures and furniture.

Unique Lighting

Finally, unique lighting is another fun trend going on in kitchen decor. These photos show some great examples of how different lighting can make for gorgeous statement  pieces. This is a great place to show off your personality, whether it be an antiqued brass lantern style, or fun geometric chandelier, whatever you choose can set the tone for the style of your space!
