It’s Spring! Is it Time to Update your Bedding?

How Often to Swap

PDR Interiors

Continuing with our Spring Update series, we are jumping to bedding this week. With bedding being a sizable investment, you don't want to feel like it needs to be updated constantly. One trick that can help your space feel refreshed is to have two full sets of bedding. One set for Spring/Summer, and one set for Fall/Winter. The style and materials should reflect the season ie. lighter weight fabrics for the warmer months and a bit heavier for the colder months.

What Feel are you Going for?

PDR Interiors

Your bedroom is a place in your home that should feel the most comfortable and personal to you. This means you should make it exactly what you want and not worry with anything else. Whether you want your bedroom to feel like a high end hotel or a cozy french cottage, make it your own. Fill it with items that make you happy and bring you comfort. Bedding is one of the most important aspects of creating your oasis. Are you a no fuss type? Skip the excessive throw pillows. Are you craving over the top glam? Go there! This space is all about you.

Creating a Cozy Bedroom for Cold Winter Days

Upholstered Headboards
clairebrodydesigns.com
One great way to add warmth to your bedroom and create a super cozy feel is to go with an upholstered headboard. It will add a great deal of softness to the space both visually and physically. The great thing about most upholstered headboards is you can attach them directly onto any bed frame with no problem so it can be an inexpensive alternative to buying a full head board and foot board set.

Area Rugs

Area rugs can add warmth and softness to any room in your home. Your bedroom should be your oasis and the most comfortable place in your home where you go to relax. This makes it the perfect place to add an area rug. Depending on your budget, you can make almost any size rug work. Ideally, you would want the area rug to start right before your night stands and extend out past the end of the bed. In most cases this would be an 8'x10' or 9'x12' rug for queen or king sized beds. If that size rug is just not in your budget, you can opt for a slightly smaller option and simply put the bottom portion of your bed on the rug.

Art & Accessories that Make you Happy

Sometimes creating a warm and cozy feel in a space isn't always about actual soft and warm items. You can add to this feeling by simply filling your room with things that make you happy and are specific to your likes. This can be anything from photos in frames of the people you love, to trinkets that have sentimental value, or even something as simple as a piece of art that you just had to have!

Hidden Potential

I am always on a quest to re-purpose things.  If an item has multiple uses, you can bet that I will buy it.  I'm not sure where my affinity for function is rooted, but it's rooted deep!  That's why I had to share my top three favorite pieces that are off the charts in both beauty & function!

1.  Cocktail table seating.  A storage ottoman that also serves as a bench seat during parties.  A round glass-topped table with four seats tucked below.  Either option makes a room that is short on space more useable.  I have implemented these options for clients who regularly hosted friends and needed additional seating.  The dual purpose makes me giddy!

2. Trundle Beds.  I know bigger is considered better nowadays.  But I still love twin beds, especially daybeds!  They are perfect solutions for kids or small guest rooms.  Storing a trundle underneath affords you the option of allowing the kid's friends over for slumber parties or creating a double bed when your out-of-town friends come for the weekend.

3. Serving Platters.  Pewter, ceramic, wood or glass trays have a million uses.  Of course, they come in handy for displaying yummy appetizers at parties.  But their function goes so much farther than that.  Platters can be used to adorn the top of your kitchen cabinets or dining room hutch.  They can be placed on your coffee table to serve as a gathering place for the remotes or magazines.  Resting on top of your bedroom dresser, a tray can be the gathering place for loose change, your wallet and car keys.

If you are tight on space or a neat freak (like me!), these three pieces can completely change your space!
