Creating a Cozy Bedroom for Cold Winter Days

Upholstered Headboards
clairebrodydesigns.com
One great way to add warmth to your bedroom and create a super cozy feel is to go with an upholstered headboard. It will add a great deal of softness to the space both visually and physically. The great thing about most upholstered headboards is you can attach them directly onto any bed frame with no problem so it can be an inexpensive alternative to buying a full head board and foot board set.

Area Rugs

Area rugs can add warmth and softness to any room in your home. Your bedroom should be your oasis and the most comfortable place in your home where you go to relax. This makes it the perfect place to add an area rug. Depending on your budget, you can make almost any size rug work. Ideally, you would want the area rug to start right before your night stands and extend out past the end of the bed. In most cases this would be an 8'x10' or 9'x12' rug for queen or king sized beds. If that size rug is just not in your budget, you can opt for a slightly smaller option and simply put the bottom portion of your bed on the rug.

Art & Accessories that Make you Happy

Sometimes creating a warm and cozy feel in a space isn't always about actual soft and warm items. You can add to this feeling by simply filling your room with things that make you happy and are specific to your likes. This can be anything from photos in frames of the people you love, to trinkets that have sentimental value, or even something as simple as a piece of art that you just had to have!

Creating a Cozy Den/Living Room for Cold Winter Days

Layer Textures
Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

If you want to create a cozy space in your home for these cold months, adding in layers of different textures will do just that. One of the easiest ways to do this is to place blankets in different fabrics and textures around the space. Draping them over sofa or chair corners, or even on an ottoman under a tray are all ways to incorporate this cozy feel. Another way to layer different textures is to add a smaller, softer area rug on top of a larger more simple rug. This is an inexpensive way to go about adding texture because of its smaller size.

Add Lanterns with Flameless Candles to Create the Feeling of Warmth
Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

We all know that candles instantly make any space feel more cozy and comfortable. The problem is, we don't all have excess candles to continuously burn to create that nice ambiance. Flameless candles are the remedy to this issue! Placing flameless candles in different sizes, into different sized lanterns will give you that warm feel you are going for. An unusable fireplace, a dead corner, or even a coffee table are all great places where you can add these to your decor.

Lamp Lighting

Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

We cannot say it enough, lamp lighting immediately makes any room feel warmer and more inviting. Lets say you normally use an overhead light in your living room. Try adding a table lamp and a floor lamp to the space and turning off that overhead. You will see immediately what a difference this makes to the overall feel of the space!

Benjamin Moore chose their own color of 2017 and, drum roll please…it is Shadow! This is a deep, rich purple hue that will fill which ever space you put it in with added drama and depth. 2017 is going to be the year of bursting out of the norm and taking risks when it comes to interiors. Peek a Blue

Finally, while Behr didn't choose one single color as their color of the year, they did choose Peek a Blue as a color in one of their 2017 palettes. This is a bright, happy aqua that will add light and whimsy to your home. This color would be right at home in an office or bathroom, or if your willing to really commit to this fun color, try it in the living room or kitchen!

Happy 2017! Here’s our Advice to Organize your Home to Save Time this Year

Incorporate Decorative Baskets into your Decor
Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors
One of the easiest ways to get your home organized this year is to try to give everything a place to go. Decorative baskets can be the perfect home for things like mail, keys, chargers, remotes and any other knick knacks you can imagine. When you purposefully create places for these items to go, it is much easier to keep track of them.

Create “Day of the Week” Bins for your Kid’s Clothes

theboysstoreblog.com
If you have kiddos, this one is for you. Day of the week bins will change your morning routine and make everything go that much smoother. All you need is stacking bins (one for every weekday) and labels. These bins can hold pre-selected outfits for each day of the week for your child. You can even add in post it notes into the bins to remind you of upcoming things that week like “picture day” or “crazy hat day” etc.

Set up a “Command Center”
hobbylobby.com
Creating a command center in your home can come in many forms. It could be something as simple as a basket on a kitchen counter or console table that holds important paper work with a calendar near by. If you want to take it to the next level, add in separate paper holders for each family member and a cork or dry erase board. Command centers like these can keep you organized and save you time this New Year!

Happy 2017! Here are 3 Trends we are Loving in Decorating

Natural Textures
lizmarieblog.com
Natural textures like jute, linen, crash, rattan & abaca are all big right now in interiors. There has been a resurgence of consumers wanting to get back to a natural feel and away from so many manmade items that include any number of chemicals. These textures can be found in anything from the fabric on your furniture, to pillows and even in art. In 2017, we can expect to see even more of these natural textures trending in decor.

Graphic Prints

Another fun trend that is continuing to gain ground is the use of graphic prints. These prints are best used in accents for your home like pillows, art and accessories. These prints can run the gamut from simple geometrics, to bold abstracts, to literal images like plants and animals. These photos show some fun examples of this bold trend.

Large Tile
maisondepax.com
Larger sized tiles have been popular in recent years, and your options in size just continue to get bigger! We have really gotten away from the days of tiny 2”x2” tiles covering our bathroom floors. One myth about larger scale tiles is that they can make a small room feel smaller. This is completely untrue, it actually opens up the space and gives your eye a nice break from the cluttered feel of teeny tiny tiles.
