Holiday pillows and blankets are an extra expense that many can’t justify paying high prices for since you only have them out for a short time. That is why buying items like these after the holidays when they are hugely discounted is the best time to do so. They can make such a cute addition to the rest of your holiday decor.

Holiday Decorating 101: The Mantle

Decide on Colors

homedit.com
When decorating your mantle for the holidays, first choose your colors. Some good go-to color schemes for your mantle include red and green, white and silver, silver and gold, and earth tones. This does not mean you must stick to only two colors, it is just a good place to start and you can add in other accents from there.

Play up the Height

Another helpful tip for decorating your mantle is to play up the height if you have it. This can be accomplished by choosing tall items like trees for your mantle as well as some shorter ones so you can see the variation.

Holiday Decorating 101: The Tree

1. Start with a Full and Fluffed Tree
christmas.bizannouncer.com
Before you begin decorating your tree, you must first make sure your tree is full and fluffed. Chances are it has been sitting in a box for the past year and needs to be brought back to life. Make sure there are no obvious gaps or flat areas. This will give you a great base to start with.
2. Choose Large Pieces for your Ornaments and other Decor.

One of the most common mistakes people make when it comes to tree decorating is choosing pieces that are too small. You don't want to end up with a cluttered mess of tiny items that get lost in the shuffle. This is not to say you need to pack the entire tree with oversized items, it is just a good place to start. It will create impact where you want it to be.

3. Fill in with Picks and other Flare!

Once you have all of your larger pieces in place and you have a good balance going, you can start adding your smaller items like picks to the tree. This will finish off the look and give you a cohesive and balanced feel. The photos below are great examples of how to use larger pieces in your tree, and then incorporate your smaller items around them.

Hot Decor Gifts for the Holiday Season

When buying decor gifts this holiday season, a good rule of thumb is to keep it simple and functional. You don’t want to get into buying things that someone would need to pick out themselves. It can be difficult to know what type of throw pillows or lamps someone may find attractive for example. Below are some great ideas that are, for the most part, universally liked and useful. They are also items that can go seamlessly with existing decor.

Picture Frames

Picture frames are always a fantastic gift option for this season. You can always pick out a nice looking photo frame and give it to someone on its own. Getting a photo printed and placing it inside is a nice, personal touch as well. Frames are something that can always stand to be updated or added to in anyone’s home which is why this makes for a fabulous gift.

Trays

Another great gifting option are trays. Trays have many different uses in the home. They can be used on ottomans or coffee tables to hold decorative items and remotes. Another great use for a tray is in the kitchen to hold containers, or even in the bathroom to hold products and other decorative items. The trick is knowing what style the person you are buying for is drawn to. Whether it be more traditional or more contemporary, there are countless options on the market to choose from.

Bar Set

One piece of home decor that has gotten popular again recently are bar carts. While we wouldn't recommend buying one for someone, (unless they have specifically mentioned it of course) purchasing a bar set is a great addition to a bar cart or even just to the kitchen counter. There are all different styles of bar sets, but a simple silver set is a great go to!

Coasters

Finally, coasters are always a great gift idea. These are useful for any household and can also be very appealing and decorative. Pictured below are some great coaster options. The black and white set are Kate Spade and are available at BedBathandBeyond.com These, and others like it are a great choice for your stylish friends and family. The other set we have pictured are from shutter fly and they are customizable in that you can upload personal photos and have them made. This is a great option for those more sentimental!
