Show Some Love to Your Living Room. Three Updates That Make a Difference.

-->
I am always looking for new and exciting ways to update not only clients’ homes but also my own. Buying all new pieces for a space isn’t the only way to make an impact. Sometimes all you need is a little inspiration.

1.     Staging your tables
In your living room, you may have console tables, side tables, coffee tables, and perhaps even built-ins. Don’t ignore these pieces, instead, gather picture frames with family photos, lamps, figurines given to you by your grandmother, trays, your favorite books, and anything else you think you might want to display. Begin with the bigger pieces, and begin layering and stacking trays and books. Grouping smaller items together will help to make a bigger impact than letting them stand-alone.

2.     Modernizing an old piece
Updating old pieces and giving them new life is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways give your room an update. Painting wood pieces such as tables and shelves will give them a much-needed face-lift. If you have a lamp base that you love but the shade is lacking, replace it, this will give you an opportunity to add more texture, color, or pattern. You can even paint accessories, little touches really can make a huge difference.

3.     Adding an accent chair
For a pop of color or to add pattern think of incorporating a new accent chair. More seating is never a bad thing and if its stylish and fun, even better.

Winter Blues? Quick tips to Brighten up your Home.

Here in Lexington it seems as if the cold winds and snow will never end. So I’ve decided to take matters in to my own hands and bring spring in, even if it does look like the arctic tundra out. I put together a list of my favorite tips that are always sure to brighten and bring life to any space.

Tip 1: Bring nature in.
Fresh flowers are a lovely way to add color to any space. Not to mention flowers are usually somewhat aromatic, perfect for a stuffy house and a great way to start off breaking out of the winter dullness.

Tip 2: Colorful throw pillows.
Throw pillows give you the opportunity to bring in vibrant colors and mix them together. The more pillows the better, your home with remain cozy but with a punch of color.

Tip 3: Patterned area rug.
Rugs pull a room together by bringing all the colors throughout the space together, while adding interest with pattern and texture.

Tip 4: Take advantage of windows.
The easiest of these tips is to fully take advantage of all your natural light. Position a lounge chair next to any window to soak up some sunlight throughout the day.

Tip 5: Adding mirrors to reflect more light.
Mirrors will not only brighten your home but will make it appear larger as well. There are many options; if you have the space, lean a full length mirror against a bare wall or group a handful of unique pieces together and hang them on the blank wall.

New Year, Love Your Space: A Snow-Day DIY Project

The snow has been coming down. Which means less going out and more staying in. And we all know we begin to pick our homes apart the longer we stay cooped up. One room that tends to be overlooked is the laundry room. In one day you can revamp this room with a few DIY projects.

The biggest impact will be color. Adding some spice into this seemingly dreaded area will transform it completely. So pick up a bucket of paint and get to it. This will take hardly any time out of your day and will be well worth the couple of hours.

Not only will organization make your life easier, it will make your laundry room appear more polished and put together. Matching baskets for clothing and supplies are a must along with matching jars for powders and loose change. Get everything off the floor, so shelving and cabinets are always nice if you have the space. Even mount the ironing board on the wall if you haven’t already.

Last but certainly not least personal touches. Put a patterned rug down, hang some pictures on the walls, and even name tags for each person. These little touches will make your laundry room more enjoyable.

New Year, Love Your Space: Beat the Winter Blues by Updating Your Accessories

Gold and copper are all the rage for 2015. Golds are timeless and sophisticated; adding accessories here and there will give any room a nice pick-me-up. Do no panic, I repeat, do not panic if you’re afraid you can’t commit to gold walls, start small and work your way up.

Gold throw pillows are an easy and inexpensive first step. There are so many options, in terms of shade and texture that you will be sure to find something you love.

Another option for slowly adding gold and copper without it being overwhelming is through the use of fixtures. Faucets, drawer pulls, and light fixtures are small ways to do so for added interest.

More obvious ways are furniture pieces and larger accessories. Side tables, bed frames, and even large vases will create focal points throughout your space and make it feel rich and stylish.
