DIY Tips: Home Office Decor

How to Make Home Work Beautiful!
Okay, we get it—your home office is the place where you work, not the place where you play.  BUT—that doesn’t mean that it can’t be beautiful.  So…here are a few DIY tips on how to make your “homework” beautiful:

o   Paint the walls a color that makes YOU happy to be at work.  Do you love the chocolate brown/teal combo that’s so hot right now?  Have you always wanted to indulge your love of all things red?   Go for it!
o   Filing cabinets are a necessary item in many offices. Just because they were beige when you bought them, doesn't mean they have to stay that way!  Choose a fun color, Find a local company that offers electrostatic painting (paint that sticks to metal) and let them give your filing cabinets a new look.

o   Yes, work is…well…work.  But that doesn’t mean it has to be back-breaking work.  Be kind to your back. Choose a desk and chair that are compatible in height. Consider an ergonomic chair OR standing height desk if you spend a lot of time at the computer. Your back will thank you!

Have a Happy New Year--and Start Thinking about Christmas 2014...NOW!

Why you should start thinking about your 2014 holiday décor NOW, when Christmas 2013 is barely over?

1.  Save that money, honey J

Seriously—there’s no better time than after Christmas, and especially after New Year’s, to get deals that are up to 75%--sometimes even 80% (and that should be considered pretty much FREE, in our book) on holiday décor.  Here’s a great example:  a 6.5 foot artificial Christmas tree with artificial lights for $13.75 at Home Depot.  AWEsome!

2.  Be prepared.

The things you’re running low on, or replace—like the string of lights that went dark the day after Christmas, or the fabric bows or ornaments that are starting to lose their luster—are at the top of your mind right now, but by next December, they’ll just be a distant memory.  So stock up now, and you’ll thank yourself later.
Stores like Walmart, Walgreens, and even grocery stores typically have seriously good after Christmas sales on bows, ornaments and more.  Even stores like Macy’s, where holiday décor can be a little pricey, start marking items 50, 60, and even 75% off after New Year’s.

3.  Change is good.

Face it:  If you’ve put the same decorations in the same place for more than 2-3 years, your décor could probably use a little change.   And what better way to prepare for that than by shopping for new holiday décor NOW, when prices are at rock bottom?

Whether next year is the year that you finally take a chance and go with all white decor, or you decide to stick with gold and silver, or even purple and red...
it's always nice to throw a few new twists into your
overall decorating plan.
