Its Spring! How to Decorate with Florals

In Patterned Fabrics

lifeonvirginiastreet.com

Spring is in the air and that means the flowers are in bloom {yay!}. If you are feeling inspired by the fresh buds outside and want to start introducing florals into your home, one way to do so is with floral patterned fabrics! Floral fabrics come in a wide variety of styles and types. Some may immediately think of the small scale florals of their grandmother’s day. Think again! There are beautiful floral fabrics for almost any taste. Florals are best used in small amounts here and there. They can make gorgeous statements when used correctly. These photos show two great examples of how you can use floral fabrics in decor.

Another great way to introduce florals into your home is in artwork. Again, there is a huge variety in the types and styles you can choose from to fit you and your home’s personality. Everything from over the top traditional to minimalistic contemporary and everything in between is what you'll find on the market today. One of our favorite ways to introduce floral artwork into a space is with abstract florals. Using this style can allow masculine and feminine styles to merge  since we normally think of florals as leaning toward the feminine side.

With Real or Faux Stems

Finally, you can introduce florals into your space by using real or faux stems in an arrangement. Some of our favorite types to use when going faux include orchids, tulips, hydrangeas and peonies. All of these flowers can look very real in their faux forms which is an important quality to have when putting together a faux arrangement. Bringing Spring indoors with real or faux stems can truly breath life into any space and can give you that fresh feel you've been searching for!

Fall Colors - How to Use Shades of Yellow in Decor

Accessories

Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

The final Fall color in our series is yellow. This is one of those colors that people seem to either love or hate. It is easy to overdo this color or use it in a way that can become off putting. On the other hand, it can be a fantastic pop of bright color when used in the right way. Accessories are a great way to work in yellow into your homes decor. Things like throw blankets, pillows and artwork can be the perfect compliment to a more neutral backdrop.

One big decor trend is to use bold colors on your lamps as a statement. Yellow is the perfect color to use for a piece like this because it is just bold enough to grab attention and add interest without going overboard. These examples show how a yellow lamp can brighten up the whole space as well as acting as a statement piece. It can look especially great when paired with whites and creams!

One of the most simple ways to introduce yellow into your home decor is with real or faux florals / sprays. There are a lot of great faux options that look very realistic on the market especially in the yellow family. Putting tall sprays in a clear vase is a simple and clean way to work this bold color into you decor.

The Colors of Spring - How to Decorate with Yellow

Polka Dots & Rosebuds Interiors

Continuing on with our Colors of Spring series, we move on to the always cheery yellow. Yellow is one of those colors that can often be forgotten about when deciding what to implement in your decor. People can be a little stand offish about incorporating this color in fear that it will be to bold or overwhelming to a space. This is why using yellows in small and subtle ways is the best way to go.

All of these photos show examples of how you can add in yellow with things like accessories, throw pillows, faux florals, and even small pops in furniture. Colors that pair well with yellow include grays, white, and blues. It can really add that punch of cheer that you didn't realize the room needed.

Transitioning from Summer to Fall Decor

Faux Florals

thesunnysideupblog.com

Decorating indoors with faux florals is a fun way to bring the outside in, especially if you're not one to keep live plants living for very long. If the faux florals you currently have in your home are a bit more summery feeling, you can simply add to them to transition to fall. If you have an arrangement that uses a lot of fun bold colors, you can swap some out for more fall friendly stems. Succulents are hugely popular right now, so adding a few of those is another fun way to add to your current florals to transition them to fall.

Outdoor Pillow Covers

If you already have your full outdoor seating area set up from the summer time it can be easily transitioned for fall use. If you chose to use a lot of bright summer colors for your outdoor cushions, simply picking up some more neutral outdoor pillow covers is an easy and inexpensive way to make the space feel a little more cozy and fall like.
