Kitchen Redo 101: How to Update Cabinets

Least Expensive Option: Update your Hardware

Updating the hardware in your kitchen can be an inexpensive fix that can make a world of
difference. This is something that can be done when you first move into a new place, for example, and would like to make the house match more with your personal style. Even just changing the finish on your hardware, like what was done on the navy china cabinet pictured, can be all you need to make a big change. Updating your cabinets can get quite costly depending on the route you take. If you are looking to update your space without diving into a full renovation, updating your hardware first is the way to go!

Midrange Option: Update the Color

If you are happy with the current style of your cabinets, a simple paint color update can work wonders! Some classic paint colors for cabinets include white and cream, while newer more trendy colors include navy and greige (a mix of gray and beige.) These photos show how the color of your kitchen cabinets can be vital to the overall look of your space.

High End Option: Change the Style

On the other hand, if you are not in love with the current style of your cabinets, updating the style all together can be the way to go. Some of the most popular cabinet styles include shaker, flat, inset, and beadboard. The style you choose depends completely on your design preference. Flat cabinets for example can give your space a very contemporary feel, while shaker and inset cabinets lean more toward a transitional vibe.

Greige is such a fabulous paint color to use not only in your kitchen but throughout your whole home. It is a combination between gray and beige and we just cannot say enough good things about it. It gives your home an updated look and feel without making your space feel cold which can sometimes happen with true gray paint colors. Some of our favorite greige paint colors include Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray, Mindful Gray, and Repose Gray.

Muted blue/green is another great color for kitchens. It combines the cool and serene feeling of soft blue with the crisp and clean feeling of green. Great examples of this muted blue/green color are Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, and Rainwashed. Both photos display Sherwin Williams Sea Salt used in kitchens.

This classic color gives just the right amount of color and drama to your space without getting to dark. Green also represents freshness and cleanliness which is why it is a fantastic color to use in a food prep area. Whether you choose to simply paint your island, your cabinets, or just your walls in this color it will not let you down. Sherwin Williams Clary Sage and Svelte Sage are both great options.

Pendant Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important fixtures you can have in your kitchen. The more lighting you can add to your kitchen the better. Pendant lighting is a great option because you can use multiple pendants or just one, depending on your needs. Some popular styles of pendant lighting include bell jars, Edison bulbs, and nautical style cage pendants.

Beautiful + Functional Sink and Faucet

Another easily overlooked fixture is the kitchen sink. While your sink and faucet simply seem like necessary parts of your kitchen it can, in fact, be a beautiful part of your decor as well. Farm sinks are quite popular because they are very functional, as they provide much more space, while also being aesthetically pleasing. If you are happy with your current sink but would like to update the faucet, antique brass is a fun option as shown in one of the examples below. Incorporating touches of this antique brass can bring in a classic and historical touch.

Kitchen Redo 101: Trends in Kitchen Decor

Open Shelving
decoholic.org

One big trend happening in kitchen decor is the addition of open shelving. This is a great way to create a display area for your dishes and other items you would like to show off. Mixing in some greenery and trinkets can create a beautiful display in an area that would normally be closed off behind cabinet doors.

Industrial Touches

Adding industrial touches here and there is another trend in kitchen decor right now. If you add too much of the industrial decor into your space it can quickly begin to make it feel cold. But with just a few touches throughout, it can create a unique and updated vibe in your kitchen. This can be accomplished by using different metals, like brass or wrought iron, for your fixtures and furniture.

Is it Spring Yet? Our Favorite Decor Trends for Spring

Black + White

blog.inmod.com

Black and white is a major trend happening in interiors right now. It is such a classic color combination and it allows you to have endless possibilities for accent colors. Whether you want to feminize it with pops of pink, or go bold with pops or orange, there is no end to how you can alter this trend to fit your personal style. A good ting to keep in mind is to try and use more white than black in your design so you don't darken your space too much.

Large Scale Prints

Large scale patterns and prints are another big trend going on in home decor this Spring. Gone are the days of teeny tiny patterns that you have to squint to be able make out what they are. Bold is beautiful for interiors and that is apparent in this trend. Area rugs, curtains, wallpaper, and throw pillows are all good examples of where you can incorporate these large scale patterns.
