Fashion Week Follow-up - Fashion Trends that Incorporate with Decor

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week just wrapping up, it got us thinking about how some fashion trends cross over into home decor. While they just presented Fall 2016 last week, lets take a look back at Spring 2016 since that is what we are currently seeing on the shelves. Here are three trends we saw on the Spring 2016 runways that are happening in home decor as well!

70’s Inspired

70’s inspired looks were seen all over the Spring 2016 runways. Rebecca Minkoff and Alberta Ferratti were two designers who were influenced by this decade for their Spring lines. This trend is without a doubt going on in home decor as well. Retro inspired pieces can be seen all over sites like West Elm and Crate and Barrel among many others.

Fringe

Fringe is one of those embellishments that will always be in style in different forms. There is something so classic about fringe in home decor as well as in fashion. Derek Lam and Diane Von Furstenberg both had looks that featured fringe in their Spring 2016 shows along with many other featured designers.

Bold Orange Hues

Countless designers featured bold orange hues in their Spring lines. Altuzarra and Veronica Beard both showed pieces in this in-your-face color. Bold orange hues are huge in home decor right now as well. Although it can be a very delicate balance, when done right, orange can be stunning in home decor. It looks especially beautiful when used as an accent color and paired with its compliment, blue.

Tis the season for wet and muddy boots being tracked into your freshly cleaned home. Solution? Make your own designer looking boot tray! All you need is a tray, and a few bags of river rocks. Make sure you get a tray with a tall enough lip so the rocks wont spill out. How to Warm up your Space on the Cheap

Use “Warm” Lighting

Polka Dots and Rosebuds Interiors

If the only lighting you have in a room is an overhead light, it can make the space feel a bit cold. Adding warmer lighting with table/floor lamps, or wall sconces will instantly make your space seem warmer. This time of year, we all want our homes to feel as cozy and welcoming as possible, and adding warmer lighting will do just that!

Add Area Rugs

There is nothing worse than being cozied up on your warm couch under a blanket, then stepping down onto a cold floor. This problem has an easy fix, just add an area rug. Area rugs create warmth in a space by adding softness, color, and texture. An area rug will not only make your room appear to to be warmer, but also help to hold in the actual heat of the room.

Bring the Outdoors In

Finally, bring the outside in by using flowers or plants with your other decor. It is so nice to have the feeling of life inside your home during these cold months. It will wa rm up your space by reminding you of warmer months. Orchids are a good example of a great flower to keep in your home all year long, they are very easy to care for and can also add great color to your space.

In Honor of Valentines Day: Our Favorite Red and Pink Decor Pieces

With Valentines Day right around the corner, we find ourselves reminiscing over past projects where we have been able to have fun incorporating reds and pinks into our designs. We have the pleasure of working with Sorority houses across the country which allows us to work with these fun colors more than the average decorators (especially pink!) So we thought we would share some of our favorites in honor of this fun holiday.
